I had this album on my playlist. A complete departure from the last two albums . Love it. Esperanza definitely outdid herself. Even though many put her in the jazz category, I think this album is more Neo Soul. My favorite songs "Rest in Pleasure", " Ebony and Ivy" ,"Farewell Dolly", " Elevate or Operate" . I can listen to these songs again and again

I've listened to Esperanza's music since her Happy You Near album with Noise for Pretend. I have loved almost all of her music. When D+, her for fun, take a break album came out, at first listen I couldn't wrap my mind around it. I stopped listening to it because I figured I just wasn't at that level of listening in my life right now, but... when I continued to let the album grow on me, I've grown to love all but 2 songs. I listen to D+ pretty much everyday. Yeah maybe she tries a little too hard with her voice, but it's coming from a passion for perfection, and I think she's just getting started. I LOVE her versatility, and the creativity of her music. I'm already wishing she had a release date for her next album. I have this message for Esperanza Spaulding. Keep being yourself, and make the music that you were put in the earth to make.

This is an absolutely gorgeous record. While I like the illustrious Ms. Spalding's previous releases, to my ears, this record is truly special…she seems to be channeling a bit of Joni Mitchell and Prince, but definitely taking it in her own direction. The material is uniformly pretty fabulous and her performances are stunning…and the legendary Tony Visconti co-produced the sessions, which I assume at least partly accounts for the welcome new sonic direction...the clever guitar player is terrific addition too.

Honestly. It took me three listens to really GET IT. But once I did get it, I realized that this album is one of the best things ever.

I've been a fan since the beginning. Other artists I love have tried taking drastic departures and usually fail. Not this time. I hear Allen Holdsworth and Scott Henderson inspired guitar, and Joni Mitchell vocals, plus so much more. Some wont like this album for the very same reasons I love it.

I love how Esperanza keeps changing things up. In this case, she uses her natural gift for jazz influenced chords and melodies and creates a hard rock record. I hope she continues to push boundries.
